The 50 caliber bullet cartridge pen makes a great gift for an outdoorsman or military enthusiast.  First developed for the Browning , a 50 caliber machine gun in the late 1910′s, the cartridge used in this pen is still commonly used in the military.

This was the most widely used bullet in the civil war. Originally a French army bullet.  It was officially adopted by the Americas in 1855.  Rings were added to the original design to hold grease to help ease the bullet down the barrel as well as to collect powder residue when fired.  Used in the Model 1861 Springfield Musket.

The model 1861, commonly referred to as the “Springfield”, a single-shot, muzzle-loading gun favored for its range, accuracy, and reliability.  It fired the 58-caliber Minie’ Ball and had a maximum effective range of 500 yards.  It was the  most common firearm in use by both Union and Confederate forces.

Shot from the 1860 Colt Army revolver, the favorite side arm for calvary, infantry, and artillery troops.  It was the most widely used handgun of the Civil War.  A six shoot model allowing the user to fire six times before needing to stop and reload the weapon.  The 44 caliber bullet was designed for the revolvers round barrel, with a cartridge that had paper glued  to the ball.

The wood or acrylic choices are limitless.  Anything you desire.  An exotic wood, a beautiful colorful acrylic, or a US Flag with the 35 stars of the Civil War Era, or a Confederate flag.

This pen is the Majestic Jr. It is not as large as the Majestic, but every bit as nice a pen.  Smaller hands with appreciate this pen.  It is a rollerball pen, the writing smoothness is unbeliveable.  It is a joy to write with.

This pen is quite the beauty.

It took about twenty five minutes to turn this pen from a 3/4 inch block of acrylic.  Once the corners were turned down it went faster.  I started the sanding with a wet 150 grit to get all the chatter marks off the pen.  Then I wet sanded with 220 and 240 grit. I finished the sanding with the little sanding square foams after soaking in water.

I buffed on a triple wheel with the tripoli sanding block and then the diamond wax on the second wheel.  The third wheel is empty for buffing.  The pen came out nice, not a scratch on it.

I may keep this pen and use it myself, I also say that until I get the next perfect pen turned.
